3rd Grade Overview of January/February 2010

In third grade, students have learned vocabulary related to the neighborhood, community helpers, and resources in and around Tiburon. To wrap up the unit, students created a book written and labeled in Spanish which described the resources in Tiburon.
In addition, they began a unit on the history of Tiburon, which will continue in the month of March.
Additional activities include related songs, interactive dialogues, online exercises and games to further reinforce vocabulary.

Basic and Practical Vocabulary Taught
Students at all grades are practicing how to say the date and describe the weather in Spanish daily. Key vocabulary includes: days of the week, months of the year, numbers, and weather words.

Looking forward in March/April:
Students are continuing with their unit of Tiburon history in Spanish. Key activities include creating a timeline of important dates in Tiburon history as well as a Kid Pix slideshow with words and pictures to depict “La Fantástica Historia de Tiburón”.
In April and leading into early May, students will embark on a historical/cultural unit related to the country of Mexico. The Mexican culture unit will culminate with a 3rd grade celebration on the cultural and historical significance of the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo) so stay tuned for upcoming details as it gets closer.
Ongoing language activities will include correlated songs, interactive dialogues, online exercises and games to reinforce vocabulary.
