Cajas de Tierra Project

Fourth grade students are working on an inspirational garden project. They have learned to use a system called the Earth Box® (Caja de Tierra) system which has allowed them to plant 65 boxes to create what we call our urban garden (jardín urbano) on the blacktop outside of fourth grade classes.

We are working with a network called The Growing Connection which is a UN Food and Agriculture project focused upon helping people around the world learn to plant and maintain gardens which have high yield with low water usage.

Every 2-3 students learned how to plant their own box. They learned about the parts of the boxes and how to plant them in Spanish.
